Scott Cohen’s Journey:

I won the Lottery, twice! Well kind of, on the week of my 45th birthday, I found out that I won the genetic lottery and was diagnosed with cancer. That same week I also found out that I had been selected by the Atlanta Track Club to represent Kilometer Kids at the NYC Marathon in November, in a couple of months that 26 miles of running!

So, let’s get the pink elephant out of there, I’m not a runner or at least I don’t fit the mold of what a runner looks like. I don’t have 12% body fat, I’m not a small guy and certainly not a fast runner. But that doesn’t matter! With your help, I want to run this marathon and show others out there, that we may be big, we may be slow, but if we put our minds to it, with enough patience and practice, we can do hard things!

My goal is to raise $3500. All the proceeds go to kilometer kids. All proceeds go to kilometer kids, a free, game-based curriculum, designed to teach kids 5-12 about goal setting, healthy habits, respect and community building, all through exposing them to the sport of running. As a non-competitive program, it shares my values that it’s not about running the fastest or winning the race, but instead it’s all about working hard, being kind and having fun while becoming more physically active, being a part of a team and finding joy in the process.
